“Elegy of Brushes” Muharram Exhibition – Paintings by Afghan Artists and Art Students in Mashhad
An exhibition and live painting performance titled “Elegy of Brushes”, focusing on Ashura and Muharram themes, was inaugurated on Sunday, September 1, 2024 (27th of Safar), at the Immigrants Art House, with the presence of cultural figures, artists, art students, and enthusiasts of visual arts.
The exhibition showcased a collection of works by Afghan artists and art students residing in Mashhad—pieces created over the past month, inspired by the concepts of Ashura, sacrifice, resistance, and the mourning of Imam Hussain. These works reflected the remarkable capacity of the migrant community to understand and artistically reinterpret religious and cultural themes.
Opening Ceremony: Speeches, Reflections, and the Beginning of a New Journey
On the second night of the exhibition, a dedicated session for critique and review was held, during which the strengths and weaknesses of the artworks, as well as the performance of the organizing team, were analyzed. Participants assessed the overall quality of the works and offered constructive feedback, along with suggestions for improving the quality of future exhibitions. This gathering provided an opportunity for artists to share their experiences and take steps toward their professional growth.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the “Elegy of Brushes” exhibition officially came to a close with the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the artists and art students.
