“A Bitter Tale of Silent Realities”

Screening of the Feature Film “Welgard..?” by Basir Mujahed in Mashhad

Coinciding with Eid al-Fitr, on the evening of Wednesday, April 10, 2025, the feature film “Welgard..?” directed by the renowned Afghan artist Basir Mujahed was screened at the Mehr Kuhsangi Cinema Complex in Mashhad, in collaboration with the Immigrants Art House. This cultural event was warmly welcomed by Afghan migrants and cinema enthusiasts.

“Welgard..?” is Basir Mujahed’s fifth feature film, produced in 2018 by the Kohdaman Film Institute with the participation of Afghan Film Directorate in Kabul.

The film’s narrative draws from the harsh realities of Afghan society and revolves around the lives of educated young people who, after graduation, face an uncertain future due to the lack of job opportunities and absence of connections. Some scenes were filmed in Mumbai, India, lending the film an international dimension.

The film had previously been screened in Tehran and Mashhad and was shown again in this special screening to support migrant cinema, keep indigenous narratives alive, and strengthen the connection of the new generation with their cultural identity.

The enthusiastic audience attendance demonstrated that migrant cinema not only reflects silent pains but can also be a powerful voice within the community.
